Back to the routine – tips for motivating your employees

25 de October, 2023

Do you feel down on Sunday afternoons? Do you hate Mondays, always waiting for the clock to strike so you can leave work and go home? Well, all of this may be related to the fact that you don’t feel motivated at your company.

Employee motivation should be the top priority for any good team manager and even for the company itself. This motivation is linked to the company’s good or bad results, and it’s up to the company to figure out what it can do to improve employee satisfaction.

“Employee motivation is an individual’s willingness to exert high levels of effort toward the organization’s goals, contingent upon the extent to which this effort satisfies a certain individual need.” – Stephen P. Robbins

There are a few tips that companies can follow to motivate their employees.

Employee recognition and appreciation

Show appreciation for their efforts and performance. Publicly recognizing employees’ achievements can be an effective way to keep them motivated—acknowledge their work. Companies should foster an environment that encourages innovation and creativity among employees.

Give constructive feedback

It is important for employees to know their strengths and weaknesses, and even to offer suggestions for improvement. Provide regular and constructive feedback on employees’ work.

Provide opportunities for development

Companies should encourage their employees’ professional growth by providing opportunities such as training, courses, and workshops. By offering this “support” to their employees, companies help them feel valued and show that the company is investing in their careers.

Create a positive work environment and provide opportunities for relaxation

Companies should create a pleasant and positive work environment where employees feel valued, respected, and motivated. Companies should encourage collaboration among different departments and employees, as well as teamwork and open communication among all members of the organization.

Companies should organize team-building activities and social events, whether they’re Friday happy hours at the office or team-building events. These opportunities will help employees interact outside the “work environment” and build connections.

Flexibility and work-life balance

Offering flexibility, whenever possible, between work and personal life demonstrates the company’s concern for its employees’ well-being, which will boost motivation. This flexibility can take the form of remote work, time off, flexible hours, or even vacation days.

Show interest and be welcoming

Returning from vacation is always a bit of a challenge, but it can also be an important opportunity for the company to welcome employees back with enthusiasm and genuine interest. Show your employees that you care about what they’ve accomplished, ask them how their vacation went, and, above all, acknowledge the value of their time off. We all deserve a vacation, but knowing that the company values us and respects our time off will motivate us to do our best work.

Work motivation isn’t rocket science—you just need to know how to go about it. It doesn’t take much, nor does it cost a lot, to boost employee motivation.

Small gestures can make all the difference. Hold monthly meetings, talk to your employees, foster a positive atmosphere among them, and you’ll find that you have a happy and motivated team.

Remember that motivated employees work harder and better, and remain loyal to companies that value them. Need help organizing a team-building event for your team or your clients? Contact EDC to see how we can assist you.
